Our Founder and Creative Director Emma Sims Hilditch joined Hampton's Head of Prime Country Sales, Jo Cocking, and Country Life's Giles Kime to cover a wide range of topics, including which countryside locations are proving popular with buyers. Jo explains that the escape from an urban environment into 2021 continues unabated, with people seeking out homes that are somewhat secluded, but close enough to villages and amenities to be practical.
Emma's Country Home
Emma lives in one such area as described by Jo, which is very close to Bath and shares the story behind her own move out of London nearly 20 years ago. Emma and her husband moved to a formerly derelict School House, which is now her lovely Wiltshire home, and spent many years sympathetically designing it to work for them as a modern family. Emma recommends purchasing an old building and taking the time and effort to design it for posterity as a satisfying investment for the future. However, Jo recognises that those with small children may be looking for a 'turn-key' solution.
The Importance of Home Offices
For many who are moving out of London, a job in the city is still very much a reality. Emma recommends finding a space within the home or in an external building for a workspace that can be shut off from the rest of the house, maintaining a good work-life balance. A home with an outbuilding is a great find as this can easily be converted into a tranquil yet productive workspace, like the one installed at The White Hart. In terms of the interior, Emma recommends filling it with things that inspire you, like artwork and books, making the space a pleasure to be in.
